The State Bureau of Investigation has completed a pre-trial investigation and sent the case materials to court regarding the illegal appropriation of a deceased person's apartment in Kyiv. Among the defendants is a law enforcement officer.
This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation.
The investigation established that during the inspection of the scene of the incident in the deceased man's apartment, one of the law enforcement officers stole real estate documents. He later gave them to his colleague and acquaintance. The accomplices found out that at that time there were no legal heirs to the apartment.
According to the case materials, they planned to register the housing under a fictitious person and sell it for 45 thousand US dollars. The State Bureau of Investigation thwarted the illegal alienation of real estate.
The law enforcement officer and his accomplice are currently charged with attempted fraud on a particularly large scale (Part 2 of Article 15, Part 5 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanctions of the articles provide for up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
“During the investigation, SBI employees also identified the relatives of the deceased owner. Thanks to this, the apartment was returned to the legal heirs,” the report says.
It was previously reported that the capital's law enforcement officers have transferred to the court the case materials regarding a 48-year-old resident of Chernihiv region. The man is accused of forging a will to inherit an apartment in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv. The cost of the property is over two million hryvnias.
