The US may lift sanctions on Russia: Zelensky commented on the consequences

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the possibility of lifting US sanctions against Russia. He stressed that this would be a serious blow to Ukraine and a reputational challenge for the entire world.

The president said this while answering journalists' questions, Suspilne reports.

Zelensky noted that the strategy of inflicting maximum financial losses on Russia is common to the civilized world – the aggressor's funds should not be used against Ukraine, in particular for the purchase of weapons.

The President noted that lifting sanctions on Russia would be a serious blow not only to Ukraine, but also to the entire world, creating a dangerous precedent.

“How can you lift sanctions on Russia if it is an aggressor? So, it can be done not only by them (the USA, – ed.),” Zelenskyy noted.

Regarding the specifics of the negotiations between Russia and the United States, the head of state said that Ukraine is aware of the dialogues on the possible lifting of sanctions. At the same time, he assured that Ukraine believes in the US position.

“We strongly believe that the US will not make such concessions,” he stressed.

US sanctions against Russia

On October 22, the US Treasury Department announced sanctions against Rosneft, Lukoil and their subsidiaries. The list includes more than 34 companies. This decision was made “due to Russia's lack of serious commitment to the peace process to end the war in Ukraine.”

On March 6, the US Treasury Department lifted sanctions on Rosneft's German subsidiary, Rosneft Deutschland.

On March 7, it became known that the United States Treasury Department is considering lifting sanctions on Russian oil to eliminate the global oil shortage caused by the military operation against Iran in the Middle East.

The day before, the United States relaxed sanctions restrictions against Russian oil for India for 30 days.
