At NATO summit, Ukraine wants to see calendar or logistical plan for joining alliance – adviser

During the NATO summit to be held in Vilnius in July, Ukraine wants to receive either a calendar or a logistical plan for joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

That’s according to Mykhailo Podyak, adviser to the head of the President's Office, who spoke at the national telethon, Ukrinform reports.

"The only condition for Ukraine's intensive participation in the Vilnius summit is the concreteness of the specific logistical plan for joining the NATO military alliance. This is very important for Ukraine… We want to get either a calendar plan for when we will be in NATO, that is, how long it will take us to go through certain bureaucratic procedures, or a logistical plan for joining," Podyak said.

He recalled that everyone in Ukraine is aware of the considated position of NATO allies regarding the need for Ukraine to become member while the war remains a restraining factor.

"Everybody understands that the admission procedure, as a bureaucratic one, cannot take place during the war. But we understand that as soon as the war ends on Ukraine's terms, Ukraine must join NATO in a very short time," Podyak emphasized. It is important that at this moment everything is clearly spelled out regarding the bureaucratic procedure for joining the Alliance, the adviser added.

According to the official, the road map regarding the procedure for Ukraine's accession to NATO should be formulated precisely in Vilnius.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on April 20, Vodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine was preparing for the NATO summit in Vilnius, waiting for a pitical invitation to the Alliance.
