First M5 Max test: Apple's new processor is the fastest / Apple
The first results of testing the new Apple M5 Max chip in Geekbench 6 have appeared on the network. According to these data, the processor showed record performance among all Apple Silicon chips and surpassed other consumer PC processors.
The first Geekbench 6 result for the 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Max processor appeared in the benchmark database on March 5. Although this result has not yet been officially confirmed, it demonstrates record performance of Apple's new chip. Macrumors writes about this.
How fast is the new M5 Max?
In the multi-core performance test , the M5 Max model with its 18-core CPU scored 29,233 points . This is higher than the Mac Studio with the M3 Ultra processor, which has 32 CPU cores and averages 27,726 points.
This makes the M5 Max the fastest Apple Silicon chip in multi-core performance, and it also outperforms all other consumer PC processors reported on Geekbench.
Compared to other Apple chips, the new processor shows a noticeable performance boost. In the multi-core test , the M5 Max is about 5% faster than the M3 Ultra and 14-15% faster than the M4 Max with its 16-core CPU.
For clarity, the test results look like this:
– 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Max, 18 CPU cores – 29,233 points
– Mac Studio with M3 Ultra, 32 CPU cores – 27,726 points average
– Mac Studio with M4 Max, 16 CPU cores – 26,166 points average
– 16-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Max, 16 CPU cores – 25,702 points on average
In the single-core performance test, the M5 Max scored 4,268 points . That's roughly in line with the standard M5 chip used in the base 14-inch MacBook Pro introduced in October.
This result also marked the highest single-threaded performance among all consumer PC processors, surpassing AMD Ryzen 9 series processors.
The new chip's graphics performance was also evaluated separately. The M5 Max version with a 40-core GPU scored 218,772 points in the Metal test in one run and 232,718 points in another .
According to wccftech , these figures are about 5–10% lower than the average result of the most powerful M3 Ultra, which scores about 245,053 points in the Metal test. At the same time, the new chip is more than 20% ahead of the M4 Max, whose average result is about 191,600 points .
Overall, the test results show that the M5 Max delivers up to 15% faster CPU performance and up to 20% faster graphics performance compared to the M4 Max . This is in line with the figures previously announced by Apple.
MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors are available for pre-order now, with first shipments to customers and availability in stores scheduled for March 11.
