Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiga stated that Ukraine considers the incident with Ukrainian citizens on the territory of Hungary as a possible provocation.
He stated this to journalists, TSN reports.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is holding a meeting with ambassadors of the European Union and the United States of America, during which representatives of the Ukrainian banking system are to provide detailed information on the current situation.
According to him, the Ukrainian side is closely monitoring all statements by the Hungarian leadership. The minister noted that a few days before the incident, hints of a possible preparation of a provocation were noticed.
“We saw hints a few days before this incident that some kind of provocation was being prepared and, in fact, you know, it's like a confession or admission of a crime in advance,” said Sibiga.
He added that currently, in the opinion of the Ukrainian side, this scenario is starting to be realized. Ukraine also sees a possible Russian trace in the events.
“It also seems to me that these trips of some representatives of the Hungarian authorities to Moscow, that all this is a chain of certain events, certain provocations, and they should probably be expected in the future, unfortunately,” the minister noted.
He also drew attention to the fact that previously Russian forces illegally deported Ukrainian citizens from the territory of the Sumy region, and now, according to him, Ukrainians are actually being taken hostage on the territory of a European country – a member of the European Union and NATO.
