Kostin, Nausėda discuss special tribunal for Russia

Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin and President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda have discussed Russia’s responsibility for the war crimes committed in Ukraine and the creation of a special tribunal to investigate Russia’s crime of aggression. Lithuanian Prosecutor General Nida Grunskienė also took part in the meeting.

The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to Kostin, establishing a special tribunal for Russia’s crime of aggression is the most effective mechanism to hd the Russian leadership accountable for fundamental international crimes. In this regard, Lithuania's support for this initiative in the UN General Assembly is extremely important to Ukraine.

Kostin expressed gratitude to Lithuania for providing its continuous support, both in the war for independence and in the struggle for justice.

Meanwhile, Nausėda assured the Ukrainian side that Lithuania would continue to actively support Ukraine’s concept regarding the creation of a special tribunal to investigate Russia’s crime of aggression against Ukraine.

Everyone who committed crimes in Ukraine or gave orders to commit them must appear before the court, the President of Lithuania stressed.

A reminder that, on March 4, 2023, prosecutors general of the countries that are part of the Joint Investigative Team (JIT) signed an agreement to set up in The Hague the International Center for the Prosecution of Russia’s Crime of Aggression, starting its work this summer.
