Ukraine to restore more than 100 schos in 14 regions in partnership with UNDP, UNS

The Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Develment of Ukraine, the United Nations Develment Program (UNDP), and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNS) agreed to repair and modernize more than 100 schos in 14 regions of Ukraine.

"Restoring and equipping educational infrastructure is one of the necessary conditions for returning Ukrainians home. We understand how important a protected and modern scho infrastructure is for Ukrainian families, so with these projects, we will make it not only the way it was but also better. Thus, in both projects, a special emphasis is placed on improving the safety of the infrastructure, in particular by repairing and equipping bomb shelters," Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction – the Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Develment of Ukraine eksandr Kubrakov said, the Ministry posted on Facebook.

Kubrakov clarified that the restoration of educational institutions will take place within the framework of two projects. The first of them is "ECHO4SCHOS-UA: Repair/modernization of schos in war-torn regions", implemented by UNDP. It is planned to carry out current repairs of at least 50 schos in 10 regions of Ukraine. The budget of the program is about EUR 14 million.

Another project is "Restoration of schos in Ukraine", which is implemented by UNS with a budget of EUR 20 million. It provides for the renovation of schos in Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions. Fifty-four institutions that need to be restored have already been selected and approved. The preparation of documentation of eight more objects for tender procedures is already underway.

As reported, Lithuania committed to allocate EUR 10 million for the recovery of Ukraine through a special mechanism created by the World Bank to finance the process of rebuilding the Ukrainian state and increasing the stability and develment of Mdova.
