Ukraine, Japan sign grant agreement on $400M for reconstruction

The Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Develment of Ukraine and the Japan International Coeration Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement on the disbursement of $400 million. The funds will be channeled into the restoration of critical infrastructure of Ukraine damaged as a result of the war.

This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction – Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Develment eksandr Kubrakov, Ukrinform reports with reference to the Ministry's post on Facebook.

"This is the second grant agreement signed with the international coeration agency JICA. Such support allows us to quickly and efficiently implement rapid and humanitarian recovery projects. First of all, it is about ensuring the basic needs of our citizens and restoring critical infrastructure," the minister said.

Kubrakov clarified that the funds will be directed to equipment for humanitarian demining, transport and energy services, medical equipment, equipment for providing educational services, as well as to the agricultural sector and the area of public broadcasting and communal services at the level of local self-government bodies.

As reported, since the beginning of this year, Ukraine and Japan have already agreed on the allocation of more than $600 million for the needs of the country’s reconstruction.
