Authorities have notified that a healthcare provider is suspected of not promptly identifying a patient’s condition, resulting in the patient’s passing. She could face a prison sentence of up to two years.

Kyiv officers have announced the suspicion of a medical professional who purportedly neglected to diagnose a patient promptly or give sufficient urgent treatment, leading to the demise of the patient. UNN conveys this information citing the National Police of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, the physician on shift was alerted to a major decline in the well-being of a 57-year-old patient undergoing treatment at a public hospital.
Even though heart problems were evident and tests suggested an arrhythmia, the 33-year-old medical doctor did not identify an acute myocardial infarction. Instead of referring the patient to a heart specialist, the doctor only prescribed medication.

Later, the patient’s state worsened considerably, and despite revival attempts, the patient passed away. The coroner’s report pointed to severe heart and blood vessel failure as the reason for death.
Following this, a review determined that a well-timed diagnosis and urgent intervention might have averted the disastrous results.
The woman was formally accused according to Part 1 of Article 140 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (inadequate fulfillment of professional duties by a medical professional stemming from carelessness, resulting in grave repercussions for the patient). The penalty associated with the cited provision involves a possible sentence of up to two years behind bars.
