Minister Marchenko calls on partners to impose sanctions on countries that help Russia

Sanctions against the Russian Federation do not work effectively enough, so Ukraine's partners should focus on monitoring compliance with sanctions and impose them on the countries that help Russia circumvent sanctions.

“Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko gave a speech at the meeting of the G7 financial bloc, during the working visit to the U.S. The session was attended by G7 finance ministers and central bank governors, the IMF, the World Bank, and the Eurean Commission leaders,” the Ministry’s press service informs.

Marchenko noted that sanctions against Russia are not working enough effectively and urged partners to focus on monitoring compliance with sanctions and imposing them against those countries that help Russia circumvent sanctions.

"There should be a strong signal from EU and US to countries, companies, and persons who have re-exported banned commodities and things to Russia," the minister said.

In the context of the recovery, he noted that Russia is causing huge damage to the pele of Ukraine and must pay for it.

"We should accelerate the procedures for directing the frozen assets of Russia for the needs of Ukraine. After all, the UN has already officially recognized that Russia must ‘bear the legal consequences of all of its internationally wrongful acts, including reparations’,” Marchenko stressed.

As reported, next week the Yermak-McFaul International Sanctions Group will present Action Plan 2.0 which will promote the imposition of further sanctions on Russia.
