Canadian Red Cross transfers more than $220M to support Ukraine

The Canadian Red Cross has already transferred more than $220 million to support Ukraine and will continue to provide assistance.

This was discussed during the meeting of Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko with President and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross Conrad Sauvé on April 4, the Ministry’s press service informs.

"Ukraine is sincerely grateful to the pele of Canada for their strong support which has increased significantly since the beginning of the full-scale war in our country. We appreciate the help provided, including in the field of health care. War is an extraordinary test that brings both direct and indirect losses.

The constant destruction of infrastructure, bridges and roads, the fuel crisis last summer, inflation, economic challenges and many other factors force us to pay more and more attention to the issue of the accessibility of health care to Ukrainians, especially those who live in remote areas. Therefore, the initiatives implemented by the Canadian Red Cross and the Ukrainian Red Cross Society are vital," Lyashko said.

He expressed he for the continuation and expansion of coeration in this area.

As noted, the meeting participants discussed the importance of concentrating efforts on ensuring the basic needs of Ukrainian patients in primary healthcare. Thus, by the end of 2025, it is planned to increase the number of visiting nurses and mobile teams.

As reported, the state budget of Ukraine received a CAD 2.4 billion (USD 1.8 billion) loan on preferential terms from Canada.
