What to expect from the price of eggs and chicken meat in the spring / Collage of Channel 24

Currently, the range of prices for eggs in Ukrainian stores is quite wide. The price can reach 80 hryvnias or 100 hryvnias per dozen, depending on the manufacturer. In the spring – until April – their prices will remain stable, and after Easter they will decline. As for the cost of chicken meat, it has already become cheaper, and a future price jump is not expected.

How might the price of eggs change this spring?

UCAB analyst Maksym Hopka commented to Channel 24 that the average statistical price for eggs for January 2026 was approximately 67 hryvnias per dozen, but with very wide regional variation.

Monitoring by chains shows ranges of up to approximately 75 – 103 hryvnia per dozen in some supermarkets (especially for pre-packaged/branded products).

Seasonal factors will play a greater role in price formation. In the cold period, egg production is lower, and in the spring, when the day is brighter and the temperature is higher, the supply usually improves – this is what holds the price down.

According to Hopka's forecasts, prices will be stable in the coming month. However, after Easter (April 5), as demand decreases and supply increases, prices will decrease.

But Mr. Maksym adds that it is necessary to take into account the cost of feed, because the grain component is one of the main drivers of price growth.

Note! As of February 24, the range of the current average cost of a dozen eggs in Ukrainian supermarkets is from 82 hryvnias to almost 84 hryvnias, depending on the producer, according to data from the Ministry of Finance.

There is also a risk of a price increase of a dozen due to possible power outages, but it usually does not happen linearly: not every outage equals an instant price jump, because networks/producers partially smooth out prices with stocks and promotions, and demand is limited by purchasing power,
– says the UCAB analyst.

In addition, there is more daylight and it is possible to offset costs through electricity generation.

Will there be an increase in chicken prices?

As Maksym Hopka explains, the consumer price index for chicken in February 2026 was 95.02%. Compared to the previous place, average prices decreased by -4.98%.

And at current “showcase” prices, as of February 23, the average price for chicken is approximately 207.97 hryvnias per kilogram, which is -14% less than at the beginning of February,
– the analyst concludes.

Hopka notes that chicken remains a basic animal protein among Ukrainians and benefits from pressure on family budgets, but demand is not too high, which limits sharp price spikes.

Interesting! The average cost in Ukrainian supermarkets per kilogram of chicken carcass and drumsticks is the lowest – approximately 101 hryvnias, calculated by the Ministry of Finance. In contrast, chicken fillet will cost the most, where you need to pay an average of 208 hryvnias per kilogram. Chicken thighs will cost an average of 140.67 hryvnias.

Why might egg prices not go down?

  • As poultry expert Oleg Katerynych told Channel 24 , in 2026, the price of chicken eggs is unlikely to drop significantly, because their price directly depends on the cost of feed, electricity prices, and logistics.

  • The expert expects that a seasonal, insignificant price decrease is possible in the spring, but it will be imperceptible. The main factor that will affect the cost of the product is the increase in the cost of feed.

  • Corn prices on the Ukrainian market have started to fall. It is known that the price according to the SPIKE Spot Index has fallen to $212 per ton. Compared to last week, this is $1 less.
