Frosts hit the gardens of Vinnytsia region

Abnormally low temperatures this winter have significantly affected horticulture in Vinnytsia region, Ukrinform reports. According to farmers' estimates, harvest losses of apricots and peaches could reach about 80%, and cherries, sweet cherries, and plums – up to 30-40%.

This was reported by Serhiy Boychuk, head of the Vinnytsiasadvinprom association. According to him, due to prolonged frosts in orchards throughout the region, fruit buds have been damaged, which has already led to significant losses in the future harvest.

Stone crops were the most affected – primarily apricots and peaches, with somewhat smaller losses for cherries and plums. Apple orchards, according to preliminary estimates, will lose about 10-15% of their harvest.

Please note! At the same time, farmers warn that additional risks for stone crops may be created by spring frosts after the start of the growing season. While their impact can be partially mitigated by agrotechnical measures, it is no longer possible to compensate for the consequences of winter cold.
