Ukraine announces its candidacy for IAEA Board of Governors

Ukraine has announced its candidacy for the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for 2023-2025 and is expecting for the support of this initiative from international partners.

Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said this at an informal meeting of EU transport and energy ministers in Stockhm on February 27, the ministry’s press service wrote on Telegram.

Galushchenko announced that Ukraine is putting forward its candidacy for the IAEA Board of Governors for 2023-2025 and called on the meeting participants to join the discussion of this issue and support the Ukrainian application.

Galushchenko also emphasized that Ukraine continues its course of integration into the Eurean energy markets, as envisaged, in particular, in the project of Ukraine’s Energy Strategy until 2050. The corresponding document prioritizes the develment of nuclear generation and renewable energy sources, which will help decentralize the Ukrainian power system.

The Ukrainian energy minister thanked EU representatives for the 10th package of sanctions against Russia and emphasized the need not only to maintain pressure on the aggressor, but also to extend it to all spheres of the Russian energy sector, including the nuclear industry.

As reported, IAEA permanent missions started their work at all Ukrainian nuclear plants.
