“The fans deserve it.” Mayweather and Pacquiao to have professional rematch of 'fight of the century' in 2026

Former world boxing champions Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will have their second face-to-face professional fight on September 19, the fight's upcoming broadcaster Netflix has announced.

Both boxers are returning to professional performances after the end of their careers. The comeback of the 47-year-old Filipino Pacquiao took place back in July 2025, when he lost a fight for the WBC welterweight title to Mario Barrios by majority decision.

Mayweather hasn't fought officially since 2017, when he won his 50th victory over Conor McGregor. Since then, the American has only boxed in exhibition matches, one of which — against 59-year-old Mike Tyson — will take place this year.

Mayweather and Pacquiao's first fight, the “fight of the century” in May 2015, resulted in the American winning by unanimous decision. The event generated a record 4.6 million pay-per-views and grossed $72 million in ticket sales.

“I've fought Manny before and won. This time the result will be the same,” Mayweather said.

It is currently unknown in which weight class the fight will take place or how many rounds it will last.

The announcement of the fight came a few days after the 49-year-old Mayweather announced his intention to resume his professional career following an exhibition fight with Tyson in the spring. As a professional, the American has a streak of 50 wins (27 by stoppage) and is undefeated.

“I know the fans have waited long enough. They deserve this rematch,” Pacquiao said. “I want Floyd to live with one defeat in his professional career and always remember who gave it to him.”

Pacquiao resumed his career in 2025, four years after it ended. The Filipino boxed with the current world champion Barrios at the age of 46 – and if he wins, he would become the oldest belt holder in any weight category today.

Pacquiao has won 12 titles in eight different divisions during his career. Mayweather has won the world title 15 times in five weight classes.
