“Educational migration” and distance learning: over 60 schools in Kyiv remain without heating

As of February 19, 14% of Kyiv's educational institutions remain without heating, including 62 schools. In some of these schools, students are studying remotely. They have also introduced the so-called educational migration to institutions where there is heating.

This was announced by the Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Valentyn Mondryivskyi.

According to him, “educational migration” is being used in six districts of the city. In particular, in Darnytskyi district, primary classes of six schools were transferred to neighboring educational institutions with stable heating, in Dniprovskyi district – two, in Pecherskyi – four. In Holosiivskyi district, four schools were transferred, in Shevchenkivskyi – seven. Pupils of ten kindergartens were also temporarily transferred.

Currently, 39 schools in the city are working remotely. 14.8% of students study online.

The Department of Education and Science emphasizes that if the temperature in a particular institution is below the permissible norm, the decision on in-person education must be immediately reviewed. District education departments have been instructed to additionally check the temperature regime in schools in Darnytsia, Dniprovska, and Pechersk districts.

“There are isolated cases when institutions try to operate in low temperatures – we categorically prohibit this,” said Valentyn Mondriivskyi.

Earlier, the Kyiv City State Administration reported that about 45% of educational institutions in the Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts of Kyiv, which were left without heating, will work remotely during the period of restoration of the CHP-4 damaged by shelling.
