Ukrainian PM presents draft strategy for bringing country out of quarantine

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal late Friday presented a preliminary version of a strategy of bringing the country out of national quarantine, identifying its main stages.

In a message posted on PM’s Telegram channel, he said a full-fledged strategy would be presented next week.

Shmyhal explains that Ukraine will remain in an “emergency situation mode” until early May. The stage envisages support for socially vulnerable strata, assistance to the unemployed and those put on forced leave, mobilization of medical resources, support for medical staff and other experts involved in fighting COVID-19.

Starting early May, Ukraine will start “going back to work.” In early June, the government plans to create 500,000 new jobs and provide credit support to small and medium-sized businesses.

Also, the Cabinet mulls easing restrictions on the operation of public transport and introducing a flexible work schedule.

From early June to early July, the government intends to put in place “new social standards of living.”

During this period, PM says, the 2019-2020 academic year will be completed, the work of public transport will be resumed in line with updated rules, while conditions of self-isolation for the elderly will be softened. Also, people will be allowed to visit recreation areas “subject to safety standards.”

As UNIAN reported earlier, the government imposed a nationwide quarantine on March 11, then extending it until April 24.
