In the 2025/26 marketing year, Brazil's grain production could reach a record 353.4 million tons thanks to an expansion in planted areas. Analysts point to a strong season for soybeans and a rise in domestic corn consumption due to the development of ethanol production.
Harvest of all crops in Brazil is going to a record
Total production of cereals and oilseeds in Brazil in the 2025/26 season is estimated at 353.4 million tons, a historic high that ensures extensive expansion of crops, according to the National Supply Company (Conab).
Analysts predict that the season will be characterized by several key trends. Favorable weather conditions in the state of Mato Grosso will contribute to a record soybean production of 178 million tons, 6.5 million tons more than in the previous cycle. At the same time, the production of ethanol from corn will have a significant impact on the structure of domestic grain consumption for the first time.
Harvesting in key regions is ahead of schedule, with 47% of the area already threshed in Mato Grosso and yields in line with optimistic expectations. Soybean plantings expanded by 1.5 million hectares, offsetting a slight decline in average yields from 4,310 to 4,244 kilograms per hectare.
Corn exports will increase despite a slight decrease in the harvest
Regarding corn, Conab predicts a slight decrease in gross harvest to 138.4 million tons (minus 1.9% year-on-year). At the same time, domestic consumption will increase from 84 to 90.5 million tons, which will be a historical maximum against the backdrop of active development of ethanol production.
Despite the expected decline in the harvest, corn exports in the 2025/26 marketing year could increase to 46.5 million tons compared to 41.5 million tons a year earlier, thanks to efficient logistics and high demand from China and other importers.
