The domestic market of Ukraine has seen an increase in potato prices this week amid a decrease in the supply of quality products. Producers report a gradual depletion of stocks, which supports increased demand from wholesalers.

Why did potato prices start to rise?

Since the beginning of the week, the Ukrainian market has been experiencing a trend of rising potato prices, EastFruit analysts report. According to producers, the key factor is the gradual reduction in stocks of quality products in storage.

Currently, farmers are offering potatoes at prices of 7-14 hryvnias per kilogram, depending on the quality, variety and batch size, which is on average 17 percent higher than a week earlier. Experts explain the increase in interest in purchases by the general decrease in supply on farms. Some producers, who do not have the ability to store them for a long time, sold the main volumes before the New Year holidays.

In the second half of the marketing season, significant supplies of imported potatoes to the Ukrainian market cannot be ruled out – this is a traditional practice even despite the high indicators of domestic production, which are reported by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

Please note! Additional support for prices is provided by active demand from wholesale companies, which are increasingly facing a shortage of quality products from producers. Farmers attribute quality problems to adverse weather during the 2025 harvest – prolonged rains have worsened both the presentation and storage ability of potatoes.

At the same time, current prices remain on average 56 percent lower than in the same period last year. Thus, according to the Ministry of Finance, the following prices for potatoes have now been set in supermarkets:

  • Auchan 12.62 hryvnias per kilogram;
  • Megamarket 18.57 hryvnias per kilogram;
  • VARUS 15.50 hryvnias per kilogram;
  • ATB 14.29 hryvnia per kilogram;
  • Silpo 14 hryvnias per kilogram.

Ukrainian greenhouse growers sell new cucumbers: what are the current market prices?

  • Sales of new greenhouse cucumbers have started in Ukraine, but the volumes are not yet enough to meet demand, which keeps prices high.

  • Prices for local cucumbers range from 140 to 180 hryvnias per kilogram, which is explained by the limited supply and higher quality of the product.
