Coronavirus pandemic: Ukraine’s health ministry hopes country not to see peak incidence rate

The Ministry carries out mathematical modeling of further developments on a daily basis.

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine hopes the country will not face a sharp peak in coronavirus incidence as such, but to this end, Ukrainians must comply with quarantine restrictions, says Deputy Health Minister Viktor Liashko.

“We don’t want this to happen in Ukraine, and therefore we appeal to all Ukrainians to adhere to quarantine measures, and then we won’t have any ‘peak’,” said Liashko, according to Hromadske.

At the same time, the official says the Ministry of Health conducts daily mathematical modeling of the developments regarding the spread pace.

“We look at this disease every day, because one way or another our quarantine measures do work, first of all, those on self-isolation and social distancing. This yields real results,” the official believes.

If quarantine restrictions are observed, Liahsko says, any forecast indicators could be reduced by 75%.

“And that’s good enough for our [health care] system,” he said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the latest coronavirus update for Ukraine said 1,668 cases have been confirmed, including 52 deaths and 35 recoveries.
