Renowned Ukrainian psychiatrist and former dissident Semen Gluzman passes away.

It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of esteemed psychiatrist, champion of human rights, and dissident Semen Gluzman, who breathed his last at Kyiv’s Oleksandrivska Hospital today. He was 79 years of age.

News has broken today that Semen Gluzman, the celebrated psychiatrist, advocate for human rights, Soviet-era dissident, and formerly a political prisoner, passed away in Kyiv’s Oleksandrivska Hospital at the age of 79.   This announcement was made to BBC News Ukraine by Yulia, daughter of Semyon Gluzman, as reported by UNN.

“He was transported to the hospital via ambulance. Shortly thereafter, we received word of his passing. As of now, these are all the available details,” –   she recounted.

These facts were also verified with BBC News Ukraine by acquaintances of Semen Gluzman – the family of dissident Myroslav Marynovych, close acquaintance of him.

Semyon Gluzman, both a human rights advocate and psychiatrist, is often considered to be one of Ukraine’s guiding moral figures.

His imprisonment occurred in the 1970s, at the young age of 25. It was in those years, during the Brezhnev period, that his pursuit of truth led to his incarceration.
