Grossi tells about creation of safety zone around ZNPP
"As for [safety] zone, I can tell you that we are making progress. We discussed this issue with the Prime Minister in Paris. We are also in contact with Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba. In Kyiv, I will continue discussions today and tomorrow," IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said at a joint briefing with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.
According to Grossi, there are several points on the safety zone: technical nuclear issues being discussed and other things regarding the location, the zone, its expansion that have to be discussed with the military and other specialists, which makes the process longer.
"I can say one thing: we are closer to a good result," the IAEA Director General said.
As reported, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi visits Ukraine this week to ensure the permanent presence of nuclear and physical nuclear safety experts at all nuclear power plants in the country.
ZNPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Eure, has been seized by the Russian military since March 4.
Since then, the invaders have placed military equipment and ammunition on the plant’s territory and have been shelling the surrounding area, the plant itself, destroying power lines, causing the shutdown of power units, and blaming the Armed Forces of Ukraine for this.
Several IAEA experts have been present at the ZNPP since September.
