“I felt like a fool.” Austrian disqualified from 2026 Olympic ski jumping final over shoes

Austrian ski jumper Daniel Chofenig has been disqualified from his second attempt at the 2026 Olympic Games due to shoes that are too big.

On Saturday, February 14, the large ski jumping competition took place. According to the results of the first attempt, the athletes who were in the top 30 advanced to the decisive jump. Chofenig scored 137.7 points for his attempt and advanced to the fight for awards from eighth place.

However, it turned out that the shoes used by the Austrian jumper were four millimeters longer than allowed by the rules. As a result, Chofenig was disqualified, and his place in the final was taken by Hector Kapustik of Slovakia.

“I used the new shoes in training, which, by the way, I wasn't very happy with, but I left them. Unfortunately, I was naive and didn't measure them. It was very stupid of me, I felt like a fool at that moment. But rules are rules,” said Chofenig.

In the end, the victory in the competition was won by Slovenian Domen Prevc, who snatched the “gold” in the second jump – earning 154.8 points (141.5 m). Thus, Prevc became the first Olympic champion in individual competitions.
