Moldova temporarily bans chicken exports from Ukraine

The National Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Moldova (ANSA) has temporarily suspended the import of Ukrainian poultry meat and bird feed, the Poultry Farmers' Union of Ukraine reported. The decision was made after metronidazole, an antibiotic banned in Ukraine, the European Union and Moldova, was detected in one batch of feed intended for export.

According to the industry association, violations were recorded in only one laboratory sample of feed. At the same time, the Moldovan regulator extended restrictions to poultry imports, although inspections did not reveal any inconsistencies.

Please note! The association notes that this decision has caused misunderstanding among Ukrainian producers. They emphasize that no complaints about the quality of Ukrainian products have previously been received from European or British regulatory authorities.

Industry representatives consider ANSA's actions biased and call for negotiations with the Moldovan side to lift restrictions and preserve bilateral trade. Poultry farmers also suggest using the mechanisms of the World Trade Organization if necessary, since, in their opinion, the restrictions do not have sufficient scientific justification.

Important! In addition, the association appealed to the State Food and Consumer Protection Service of Ukraine with a request to conduct an investigation and establish the possible source of metronidazole entering the feed.
