Zelensky arrives in US for a visit
As an Ukrinform correspondent in Washington, D.C. reports, the Ukrainian delegation led by Zelensky will meet with the U.S. senior leadership at the White House on December 21.
The parties are expected to discuss the current situation in Ukraine, as well as the continuation of comprehensive bilateral coeration in the face of Russian aggression.
"During the visit, President Biden will announce a significant new package of security assistance to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression," the White House stated ahead of the visit.
Later on Wednesday, the President of Ukraine will address a joint session of Congress, demonstrating the strong, bipartisan support for Ukraine.
In addition, the President of Ukraine will hd several bilateral meetings.
This is the second state visit made by Zelensky to the United States. He visited the US for the first time in late August – early September last year. The current visit is Zelensky's first trip abroad since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
As reported, Zelensky left for Washington, D.C. immediately after visiting the hottest area of the war – the advanced positions of Ukrainian defenders in Bakhmut. According to the White House, the presidents of the USA and Ukraine discussed a possible meeting in the U.S. capital during a telephone conversation on December 11. Last Wednesday, December 14, Biden officially invited Zelensky to fly to Washington. The Ukrainian side formally confirmed the visit last Friday.
The Office of the President of Ukraine emphasized that the visit to the USA shows a high level of trust between the two states.
