Head of Mdova intelligence says risk of Russian invasion next year seen as “high”

Russia may invade Mvoda in early 2023, while the decision will rest on whether Russia seals gains in Ukraine.

This was stated by the head of the Information and Security Service of Mdova (SIB) Alexandru Musteață, Ukrinform reports with reference to NewsMaker.

Musteață said in an interview with TVR Mdova that the security agency is studying various versions of develments, among which there is a possibility that Russian tros will try to capture the north of Ukraine, and if successful, advance to Mdova.

"The question is not whether the Russian Federation will launch a new offensive toward the Mdovan territory, but when it will happen: early next year, January or February, or later, in March or April. But judging by the information we have, Russia can go farther to create a corridor with the Transnistrian region, which is the territory of Mdova. Then it will be possible to say with clarity that yes, they are going to advance here to connect (the territory – ed.). We can discuss what will happen after that, what their intentions are for Chisinau, but this is a real, this is very high risk," Musteață said.

The intelligence chief also noted that the largest ammunition depot in Eure, located in Kbasna in the Transnistrian region, is very thoroughly guarded by the Russian military. According to one of the official’s assumptions, Russia has plans to use these munitions in a possible military confrontation.

As reported by Ukrinform, on December 5, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Mdova announced that the Border Pice found Russian missile debris near Brychany. A criminal case was initiated.

eks Danilov, Secretary of the National Security Council, said that a Russian missile hit the territory of Mdova.
