Apartments were appropriated and sold: law enforcement officers exposed real estate fraud in Kyiv

Law enforcement officers have uncovered a scam in Kyiv involving the illegal appropriation of apartments. Four members of the group were reported on suspicion of fraud, and the case materials were transferred to the court.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Kyiv.

According to the case materials, the illegal scheme was developed by a 58-year-old Kyiv resident. He involved accomplices aged between 40 and 60 in his activities.

Law enforcement officers found out that the suspects selected housing whose owners had died, were incapacitated, or apartments belonged to single people or senior citizens. Later, the suspects forged documents and presented themselves as the legal owners. They sold the real estate and divided the proceeds among themselves.

“During the investigation, investigators proved the involvement of the defendants in 8 episodes of misappropriation of apartments and private houses in various districts of the capital, from which they enriched themselves by more than 8 million hryvnias,” the report says.

Investigators informed four members of the organized group of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – fraud committed repeatedly, on a large, especially large scale and by an organized group. The charges were sent to court, the sanction of the incriminating article provides for up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

It was previously reported that the capital's law enforcement officers have completed and submitted to the court the case materials regarding a 48-year-old resident of Chernihiv region. The man is accused of forging a will to inherit an apartment in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv. The cost of the real estate is over two million hryvnias.
