One more nuclear power unit connected to Ukraine’s energy system
The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Energy Ministry, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
At 01:09 a.m., December 13, 2022, upon the completion of repair works, Energoatom’s ninth 1,000-megawatt power unit was connected to the energy system. It was taken out of service after Russia’s missile attack on November 23, 2022. The unit is now gaining power.
“This is another step towards the stability of the energy system. All nine nuclear power units, which are situated within the Ukrainian-contrled territory, are running to meet the needs of househd consumers and the country’s economy,” Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said.
According to the ministry, Russians are now blocking the eration of power units at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), which they have temporarily seized. Zaporizhzhia NPP continues to consume over 100 megawatts of electricity for its own needs from Ukraine’s energy system.
