US President Donald Trump has criticized American skier Hunter Hess, in response to the athlete expressing “mixed feelings” about competing under the US flag at the 2026 Olympic Games.
During the 2026 Olympics, several athletes made statements about their rejection of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers who shot and killed two people in Minneapolis. In late January, it was announced that ICE officers would help protect the American delegation at the 2026 Winter Olympics. There was also a protest against ICE in Milan on the day of the opening ceremony.
