Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban made harsh statements about Ukraine and the European Union ahead of his visit to the United States.
This is reported by index.hu.
According to him, Ukraine is allegedly demanding that Brussels disconnect Hungary from cheap Russian energy, which could lead to a sharp increase in tariffs for the population.
“Anyone who says this is an enemy of Hungary, therefore Ukraine is our enemy,” Orban said.
He claims that without maintaining the current energy policy, Hungarian families' utility costs could increase by 800,000 – 1 million 2.5 – 3.1 thousand forints per year.
The Hungarian prime minister also criticized the possible involvement of the European Union in the war, saying that the appearance of EU troops in Ukraine without an agreement with Russia would mean entering the war. Separately, he accused the EU leadership of allegedly intending to pressure all member states to participate in hostilities.
“Ukrainians are asking for $1.5 trillion, including our money. If even one EU soldier appears on the territory of Ukraine without an agreement with the Russians, it means that we have entered the war. And the EU leadership is not satisfied that only half of the union will go to war, Brussels will put pressure on all member states to take part in the war. Therefore, our main opponent is Brussels,” he said.
In addition, Orban announced that he would travel to Washington in two weeks to participate in the inaugural meeting of the “Peace Council”.
