Ukrainian sugar producers successfully completed the sugar refining season

The sugar refining season in Ukraine ended on February 1, 2026, latifundist.com reports. During this period, 26 factories of the Ukrtsukor association produced 1.64 million tons of sugar, and taking into account one more enterprise that is not part of the association, the total production volume reached 1.72 million tons.

Despite a 23 percent decrease in sugar beet plantings, or 50,000 hectares, compared to the previous year, sugar production decreased by only 4 percent, or 80,000 tons. This result is explained by an increase in beet yield to a record 58 tons per hectare for the industry, a high sugar content of 17.6 percent, and improved operational processes at processing plants. As a result, sugar yield increased by 1 percent compared to 2024, to 15.17 percent.

The following companies remained the leaders in sugar production in the 2025 season:

  • “Radekhiv Sugar” with a share of 32 percent,
  • “Astarta” – 21 percent,
  • “Ukrprominvest-Agro” – 15 percent,
  • Teofipil Sugar Plant – 6 percent,
  • A'SPIK – 5 percent.

In the 2025/26 marketing year, the plants of Ukrprominvest-Agro processed 1.6 million tons of sugar beets and produced 226 thousand tons of sugar.

At the same time, 5 sugar factories in the European Union countries ceased operation in 2025, and a total of 17 processing plants have been closed since 2017. According to the Committee of European Sugar Producers, this trend is associated with rising production costs and increased competition from cheap imported sugar.
