Parubiy may receive the title of Hero of Ukraine

A petition has been registered in Ukraine asking for the posthumous award of the title of Hero of Ukraine to former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy. It has already garnered the required 25,000 votes. It will now be considered by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The petition is registered on the OP website. Its author, Dmytro Lavranyuk, noted that Andriy Parubiy devoted his entire life to serving Ukraine, protecting its sovereignty, independence, and democratic values.

Also, as indicated in the petition, Parubiy made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian parliamentarism. He also played a key role in ensuring the security of Maidan during the Revolution of Dignity of 2013-2014.

“His consistent pro-Ukrainian position, dedication to state interests, and contribution to strengthening national security and European integration of Ukraine deserve the highest state award – the title of Hero of Ukraine,” the petition states.

The murder of Andriy Parubiy

On August 30, a member of parliament from the European Solidarity party and former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, was shot dead in Lviv.

A 52-year-old Lviv resident, Mykhailo Stelnikov, is suspected of the murder. He was charged with premeditated murder and illegal possession of a weapon. He was arrested without bail.

Lviv resident Mykhailo Stselnikov, suspected of the murder of Andriy Parubiy, has previously been noted for spreading anti-Ukrainian messages. As journalists from Toronto Television found out, he has repeatedly supported pro-Russian narratives and tried to justify the Kremlin’s crimes.

Back in November 2022, Stelnikov joined a conversation with a Russian video blogger who tried to shift responsibility for the tragedy at the Kramatorsk train station to Ukraine. Then 61 people died, and the suspect supported this version without any evidence, claiming that “it was probably our missile.” In the same discussion, he also questioned the evidence of the mass killings in Bucha, the facts of which are recognized by the world.

Stelnikov himself admitted in court that he shot the politician. He called his actions “revenge on the Ukrainian authorities.” However, the man denies the information that he acted on the orders of Russian special services, saying that the Russians did not blackmail him.
