General Staff: Russians deliberately struck prison in enivka, where Ukrainian POWs were held

The Russian forces deliberately shelled a prison in enivka, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were being held.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said in a statement on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

"The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out a targeted artillery shelling of a penitentiary facility in the settlement of enivka in Donetsk region, where, among others, Ukrainian prisoners were being held," the statement reads.

The General Staff noted that the Russian invaders pursued at least two goals – to accuse Ukraine of committing "war crimes", as well as to hide the torture of prisoners and executions they carried out there on the orders of the occupation administration and the command of the Russian Armed Forces.

The aftermath of the shelling is being clarified.

The General Staff emphasized that according to the information provided by the commander of the Rocket Forces and Artillery of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not launch missile or artillery strikes on the area in enivka.
