An outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza type A subtype H5N1 has been detected in the Chernihiv region. Quarantine was introduced in one of the settlements of the Chernihiv district after the death of poultry in a private farm.

Bird flu outbreak in Chernihiv region

The Main Department of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Chernihiv region has confirmed an outbreak of bird flu, the department's press service reported.

According to the State Service for Food and Consumer Protection, a death of poultry was recorded in the private farm of the gardening society “Desna” in the village of Zhavynka, Kyinsk territorial community, Chernihiv district. Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of the bird flu virus type A subtype H5N1, in connection with which quarantine was declared in the affected area.

At the same time, the department noted that as of January 30, 2026, the territory of Chernihiv region remains free from African swine fever.

In addition, specialists continue to work on eliminating other animal diseases. Currently, 4 unfavorable points for animal rabies and 3 unfavorable farms for bovine leukemia have been registered in the region, where appropriate health measures are underway.

Poultry meat exports brought Ukraine over $1.1 billion per year
