Zelensky meets with Ukraine’s ympics medal winners

Ukraine will support its athletes and create the necessary infrastructure for them, according to Ukrainian President Vodymyr Zelensky.

The head of state said this at a meeting with the medal winners of the Tokyo 2020 ympics and their coaches, the presidential press service reported.

"We will build an infrastructure that other national teams will envy. Ukraine will support our great athletes with dignity," Zelensky said.

According to him, today the state is dealing with the creation of sports infrastructure, paying more attention to the needs of athletes and coaches.

Zelensky congratulated the ympians on their successful performance at the ympic Games, where they won 19 medals.

"You have earned so many medals with your hard work. I understand how difficult it is to prepare for the ympics during the COVID-19 pandemic. You have all done well. You have won," he said.

At the same time, the head of state raised the issue of creating conditions for the return to Ukraine of strong coaches who are now training athletes for other countries, as well as conditions for attracting foreign specialists.

He said that a national program for the develment of sports infrastructure would be presented during the visit by President of the International ympic Committee Thomas Bach to Ukraine in September.

Zelensky also spoke in favor of hding the ympic Games in Ukraine in the future. "We never had them. I am not sure this will happen in our time, but we will definitely build everything to make it easier for future generations," he said.

The president presented state awards to athletes who won gd, silver and bronze medals at the 2020 ympics and to their coaches.

The 2020 Summer ympics were held in Tokyo (Japan) from July 23 to August 8.

Team Ukraine won 19 medals at the 2020 ympics, including one gd, six silver and 12 bronze medals, taking 16th place by the total number of medals and 44th place by the number of gd medals.
