Kremlin steps up propaganda efforts in Africa

The Kremlin is stepping up its propaganda campaigns to spread its narratives and influence across the African continent. In particular, the Russian Federation intends to create centers for interaction with African bloggers and organize a Russian television network in Africa.

The Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine reported this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

“The Kremlin is stepping up its propaganda efforts to spread its narratives and influence in Africa. The so-called “Russia-Africa information bridge” was recently held in the Russian State Duma, the goal of which was to strengthen Russia's information presence on the African continent. Russia plans to create centers for interaction with African bloggers, develop a Russian television network in Africa, support African “Orthodox bloggers” and create religious content aimed at an African audience,” the report states.

As already mentioned, Russian propaganda actively uses the theme of anti-colonialism and seeks to present Russia as a country entrusted with the “noble mission of finally putting an end to information colonialism in Africa.”

In reality, CCD stressed, this rhetoric has only one goal: to expand Russia’s influence on the continent in a completely neoconservative spirit. For Moscow, Africa is just a source of natural resources needed to weaken the impact of economic sanctions and support its military actions against Ukraine.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Central Committee of the Russian Federation denied the “profitable” cooperation between Russia and China, since the trade turnover between the two countries has decreased by 34 billion dollars since the beginning of the year.
