Hungary’s decision to block Ukraine-EU accession talks a controversial position – Stefanishyna

Hungary's decision to block the start of negotiations for Ukraine's accession to the EU is a "controversial position." Budapest is well aware that Kyiv has no intention of worsening the situation for the Hungarian minority or any other national minority.

ha Stefanishyna, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for Eurean and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Minister of Justice, said this in comments to Ukrinform.

"Hungary's position is quite controversial because it very demonstratively supports the newly elected President of the United States and actively promotes his picies and ideogy in Eure. The key message from both the President and the Vice President of the U.S. has been that Eure must take greater responsibility for its own security and future. That is why Hungary's blocking of the negotiations seems strange to me, especially now, when the Hungarian government knows perfectly well that we have no intention of worsening the situation for the Hungarian national minority or any other national minorities," Stefanishyna said.

She said that Hungary's obstruction of Ukraine's accession talks "contradicts U.S. calls" for Eure to take greater responsibility.

Hungary has been using the EU's unanimity rule on expansion decisions to block the process of Ukraine's accession talks with the Eurean Union.
