Since start of full-scale war, 148 artists, 96 media workers killed in Ukraine

Since the beginning of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, 148 Ukrainian artists and 96 media workers have been killed.

This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications (MCSC), according to Ukrinform

“The war has claimed the lives of 148 Ukrainian artists and 96 media professionals. These data not only show the scale of losses, but also remind us of the tragic pages of our history. Just as in the 20s and early 30s of the twentieth century, the Stalinist regime destroyed a generation of Ukrainian artists, so today Russia is purposefully destroying the cultural elite of Ukraine,” the statement said.

The ministry emphasized that the literary and artistic generation known as the “Executed Renaissance” presented the world with masterpieces of literature, painting, music and theater. “These artists were the pride of our nation. Today, we are once again losing not just talented Ukrainians, but a part of our soul, because each of our artists is a unique personality who enriched Ukrainian culture,” the MCSC added.

It is noted that during the war, not only Ukrainian but also 7 foreign media workers who td the world about the events in Ukraine were killed.

“Systematic crimes against journalists and media committed by Russia pose a serious threat to freedom of speech and information security, undermine democratic values and human rights,” the ministry said.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, military man and poet Mykhailo Mykus was killed in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
