Türke’s Sinirlioğlu appointed OSCE Secretary General

The 31st OSCE Ministerial Council in Malta concluded with key decisions on the appointment of four senior officials to lead the OSCE’s Secretariat and institutions.

That’s according to the organization’s press service, Ukrinform reports.

The OSCE Chair-in-Office, Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg, welcomed the appointments of the flowing senior officials to the OSCE’s t positions:

Feridun Sinirlioğlu (Türke) as OSCE Secretary General.

Maria Telalian (Greece) as Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.

Cristhe Kamp (Netherlands) as OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities.

Jan Braathu (Norway) as OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media.

“These appointments reaffirm the OSCE’s critical re as a platform for dialogue and co-eration. They signal the clective determination of the participating States to strengthen the Organization and equip it to respond effectively to the evving security landscape,” said Borg.

The package decision was preceded by month of negotiations, diplomacy, and common believe in the preservation of OSCE functionality, the official td a press conference.

According to media reports, the Maltese OSCE Chairmanship had previously selected four nominees from 13 candidates for four t positions in the OSCE, but this prosal failed to reach consensus, as both Türke and Greece, which had nominated their candidates in a joint step, insisted on seeing their nominees approved. After additional negotiations held behind closed doors, a modified package of four senior officials appeared, which included the candidates prosed by Türke and Greece.
