Ukraine needs to en agro-processing facilities – agrarian picy minister

Ukraine should pursue the active transition to a value-added economy model through the establishment of processing plants, which will enhance the value of its agricultural exports.

Ukrainian Agrarian Picy and Food Minister Vitalii Koval said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

“I would like to urge all those invved in the cultivation of crs and trading to consider transitioning to a value-added economy model. Given that the average price of agricultural exports last year was USD 309 per tonne, and comparing this figure with those of Pand (USD 1,560) and Italy (USD 2,670), it is evident that for Ukraine, this means that we have a model of a poor raw material economy. It is essential that we process raw materials domestically in order to make our products have added value.  Therefore, I urge everyone, including traders, to look for portunities to establish processing facilities in Ukraine,” Koval emphasized.

He also noted that government support, including loans from various institutions, is currently available for this purpose.

It is crucial to recognize that the era of exporting low-cost products abroad is coming to an end, as logistics costs are rising and competition is growing. It is therefore essential that we make our product highly competitive. This should be done without delay," the Minister of Agrarian Picy and Food of Ukraine said.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Pish authorities are taking all necessary steps to reach an agreement with local farmers so that they do not block the Pish-Ukrainian border again.
