Veteran Picy Strategy is “living” document and will be adapted to new challenges – MoVA

The Veterans' Picy Strategy is a dynamic and flexible document that will be updated in accordance with the needs of veterans.

Minister of Veterans Affairs Nataliia Kalmykova said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

“The strategy has been approved until 2030, but the action plan has been develed until 2027, and will be updated thereafter. Changes in the external situation and the needs of veterans require constant monitoring and adjustment of the Strategy,” Kalmykova said.

She emphasized that this document is “living” and will be adapted to new challenges.

In addition, according to her, the strategy approved by the Cabinet of Ministers is a revutionary step in shaping further actions to support Ukrainian veterans.

“Before that, there was no document in Ukraine that would determine the vector of state and local picy in this area. This Strategy establishes rules and direction for both central executive authorities invved in the implementation of veterans' picy and local governments,” Kalmykova said.

She noted that after the Strategy is approved, each central executive body and regional military administrations will have to devel their own plans for implementing veterans' picy, which will be jointly worked out in the future.

According to the minister, the document introduces the concept of well-being, as all measures taken by the state for veterans and their families are aimed at achieving well-being.

“This document has three main goals: the first is to restore military capital and achieve veterans' well-being; the second is to respect and honor veterans; and the third is to strengthen defense capabilities. These are different parts of a comprehensive system,” the head of the Ministry of Veterans noted.

Kalmykova emphasized that an important aspect is the restoration of veterans' physical and mental health.

“That is why we are now working with the Ministry of Health and the Coordination Center as part of the nation's mental health program. In these areas, we are working to improve primary health care, attract more qualified specialists for psychogical support for veterans and create programs for sports as an important element of psychosocial rehabilitation,” the minister informed.
