Queen Maxima of the Netherlands will join the Dutch Armed Forces as a reservist.
This was reported by the Dutch public broadcaster NOS, citing its own sources.
It is reported that after a short military training, Queen Maxima will join the Dutch army on a part-time basis. It is not yet clear in which branch of the country's Armed Forces she will serve.
In general, the Dutch military reservists are primarily called upon in emergencies, such as natural disasters or military threats. They can also perform a wide range of tasks, from cybersecurity to security and representational functions.
Queen Maxima had previously participated in military exercises near Garderwijk. Her decision to apply was made possible by the age requirement. The age of entry into the Dutch reserve service is 55, and she did so at 54.
The Royal Family has traditionally had close ties to the defense sector. Princess Amalia recently completed her general military training at the Defense College, and King Willem-Alexander also served in the Royal Netherlands Navy. Before ascending to the throne, he held high military ranks as a reserve officer in the navy, army, air force, and military police.
