Russia reducing personnel numbers in its diplomatic institutions in Norway

The Russian Embassy in Oslo and other diplomatic institutions run by the Russian Federation in Norway will reduce the number of employees from October 17 at the request of the Norwegian side.

That’s according to Radio Liberty, Ukrinform reports.

Not only the staff of the embassy in Oslo will be cut, but also that in the consulates of Russia in other regions of Norway. For example, a single diplomat will remain in place in the consulate on the Svalbard archipelago. Since October 15, that diplomatic mission has suspended consular reception.

Norway is a NATO Ally condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine and providing military assistance to Kyiv. In April of this year, Norway expelled 15 Russian diplomats and employees of the military attache's office. In a mirror move, Russia expelled 10 Norwegian diplomats.

As reported in late May, Norway tightened the entry rules for Russian nationals. Now citizens of Russia are allowed to cross in only to visit direct relatives, for work or study, or to maintain real estate prerty they personally own.
