Iran chased an American tanker after the US shot down a drone

After the US shot down an Iranian Shahed drone, Iran pursued an American tanker in the Persian Gulf and threatened to seize it. The vessel was rescued by a US warship, which escorted it to safety.

The Wall Street Journal writes about this.

On February 3, Iranian gunboats approached the U.S. tanker Stena Imperative in the Strait of Hormuz and ordered it to stop and prepare to board. The U.S.-flagged tanker accelerated and avoided a confrontation, and was later escorted by a U.S. destroyer. According to maritime security firm Vanguard Tech, six of the Iranian boats were armed with .50-caliber guns. U.S. officials confirmed that the actions were provocative and posed a threat to the vessel. The incident came amid a growing U.S. military presence in the Middle East and ahead of expected talks between Tehran and Washington.

Recall that on February 3, an American F-35 fighter jet shot down an Iranian Shahed drone that was approaching the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea.
