In Transcarpathia, a five-month-old infant passed away in the critical care unit of a regional pediatric hospital, subsequent to being admitted due to a cough. The police are examining the situation under the article regarding the inadequate fulfillment of professional responsibilities by physicians.

The infant’s parents sought help at the Zakarpattia regional children’s hospital, mentioning a cough. Nevertheless, a few hours later, the 5-month-old infant succumbed in the intensive care area. Legal authorities are determining the details surrounding the unfortunate event, as reported by the Main Department of the National Police of the Zakarpattia region along with the Zakarpattia regional prosecutor’s office, UNN reports.
Around 8 p.m. on January 23, the young boy was taken to the hospital owing to a worsening medical state and a cough. The parents brought the child to the emergency room. According to their statement, there had been no earlier issues concerning the child’s health.

Shortly after the infant’s admittance to the healthcare facility, the baby’s condition rapidly declined, prompting a transfer to the intensive care area. After midnight, medical personnel declared the 5-month-old infant deceased, a fact the 21-year-old father communicated to the police.
Police state that the baby was born prematurely, leading to a prolonged period of prior treatment for breathing complications.
Currently, investigators have launched a criminal inquiry under Part 2 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – inappropriate execution of professional duties by a healthcare professional, resulting in grave consequences, specifically death.
A medicolegal examination has also been mandated in this instance. Law enforcement personnel are obtaining records from the medical center, carrying out interviews, and have scheduled a medical expert commission.
