American sets shot put season record with best indoor push in two years

American track and field athlete Jordan Geist won gold at the World Athletics Indoor Tour tournament in Ostrava with a season record.

Among the technical disciplines at the Czech Indoor Gala, the winners were determined in the men's shot put, long jump, and women's pole vault.

The shot putters' lineup was competitive: 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Rajindra Campbell from Jamaica, 2017 European indoor champion Konrad Bukovecki, and 2025 European indoor champion Adrei Toader from Romania participated.

After the first attempt, the lead was taken by American Jordan Geist, who threw 20.80 meters. In his second attempt, he improved his result by 1.24 meters, reaching 22.04 meters, which set a new world record for the season.

  • Geist threw for only the third time in his career, a mark he had broken twice in 2024: with throws of 22.25 and 22.09 meters.
  • The American's attempt became the best among all indoor athletes since April 2024. Then another American, Peyton Otterdahl, pushed the shot put to 22.59 m.
  • Thanks to his result, Jordan Geist managed to meet the standard for qualifying for the 2026 World Championships. Since the start of the season, he became the third athlete to throw the shot put over 21.20 m. The American has not yet participated in the World Championships.
