Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiga announced that Ukraine is initiating amendments to the Statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
He wrote about this on the social network X.
According to him, the current statute does not provide for any measures to respond to cases where a state knowingly violates the conditions of “safe and secure use of nuclear energy”, while continuing to fully exercise its rights within the Agency.
In this regard, Sibiga instructed the Permanent Mission in Vienna to send relevant proposals to the IAEA Secretariat and distribute them among member states.
“Ukraine offers a clear mechanism for depriving the right to participate in IAEA decision-making in such cases. This is not about politics, but about the organization's authority, security, and justice,” Sybiga emphasized.
As a reminder, on January 30, Ukraine already called for the suspension of Russia's membership in the governing board of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was ready to meet personally with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin to resolve the “most sensitive issues” of a potential peace agreement, namely the territories and the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
