A 28-year-old individual from Kyiv, believed to have murdered his grandmother and tried to murder his mother, has been deemed of unsound mind. The public prosecutor’s office has lodged a request with the judicial authorities to enforce mandated medical treatment on him.
A 28-year-old denizen of Kyiv, who is suspected of the homicide of his grandmother and attempted assassination of his mother, has been declared mentally unfit. The prosecutor’s office has submitted a request to the court for the imposition of mandated medical interventions on him, the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office indicated, UNN reports.

“A Kyiv local who strangled his grandmother and made an attempt on his mother’s life, in the presence of his bound father, was discovered to be of deranged mind due to a mental ailment. Prosecutors from the Darnytsia District Attorney’s Office of Kyiv have presented a petition to the court to implement mandated medical care for a 28-year-old male suspected in the murder of his grandmother and the attempted murder of his mother,” the report states.
Based on initial details, a forensic psychiatric assessment has determined that the individual suffers from a mental disorder exhibiting paranoid indications. As a result, he was unable to realize his conduct and exert control over them during the perpetration of the offense.
“The actions of the 28-year-old have been categorized as premeditated homicide and a finalized attempted assassination. He is presently situated in a mental health institution under stringent observation,” the report indicates.

In December 2025, a Kyiv man was apprehended under suspicion of homicide. It was ascertained that he initially struck his grandmother on the head with a kettle, proceeding to strangle her. Subsequently, he commenced striking his mother on the head, after which he also endeavored to strangle her. The woman became unconscious, leading the son to believe she was deceased. The man’s father was restrained throughout this period, as the detainee later justified – to prevent his intervention.
