The proprietor of a menagerie in the Khmelnytskyi vicinity was judged culpable of mistreatment of animals, triggering the getaway of lionesses and the demise of other creatures. The judge condemned him to a five-year jail term, deferred for a duration of twelve months.
The possessor of an aviary in the Khmelnytskyi district was adjudged guilty of harsh treatment of animals and given a five-year sentence, however, the judiciary commuted the sentence to a one-year suspended term. Hence, the court determined that in 2018, with the purpose of undertaking ventures linked to the keeping and exhibition of wild animals, a male leased non-residential spaces where, in contravention of the mandates of the legislation, he accommodated particularly perilous untamed animals – lions – in handcrafted, technically unsound and unadapted fences that did not conform to their biological and species requisites, did not furnish adequate expanse, suitable microclimate, refuge from inclement atmospheric conditions and secure sequestration, thereby engendering unsuitable circumstances for maintaining the aforementioned species of fauna, which prompted their corporeal agony, a condition of persistent tension and precluded the prospect of considerate management of them.
Owing to a flagrant infringement of the stipulations of the statute on shielding fauna from inhumane behavior, on 15.11.2025 at circa 10:30 a.m. a pair of lionesses exited the enclosure under enigmatic circumstances. Existing in a condition of unchecked animosity instigated by erroneous stipulations of detention, the stated wild creatures assailed other animals, culminating in the demises of: a pair of sheep, a sextet of goats, a solitary deer, a singular alpaca, a trio of falcons and a solitary feline
– the court declaration stipulates.
It is documented that during the pre-trial inquiry, the proprietor of the enclosure unreservedly conceded his culpability in the aforementioned action, genuinely expressed remorse, and proactively aided in the revelation of the criminal transgression.
Ultimately, the court sanctioned the accord between the male and the prosecutor, pronounced him blameworthy of brutality to animals, and sentenced him to 5 years imprisonment with the confiscation of the two lionesses, but excused him from serving the primary sentence of imprisonment with probation and imposed him on probation for 1 year.
