Croatia was competing in the third-place match after losing to Germany in the semi-final (28:31). Iceland, on the other hand, lost to Denmark in the other semi-final by the same score.

Iceland and Croatia have met 13 times in total in a head-to-head match. The last time this happened was in 2026 in the main round of Group II. Then Croatia won, beating Iceland by one goal (30:29).
How was the match between Croatia and Iceland?
- At the start, the Croatian team started the match more actively and took a three-goal lead inside. The team maintained this advantage until the end of the first half, finishing with a score of 17:14.
- The second half was spent exchanging goals, but the Croatian advantage remained, which increased to four goals. In the last minutes of the match, the Icelanders fought back from -5, reducing the gap to one goal. In the end, the Croatian national team finished the match with a victory of 34:33.
- The best player of the match for the winning team was Croatian Tin Lučin, who scored nine goals. In Iceland, the most goals were scored by Omar Magnusson – 12 goals.

Croatia won the bronze medal at the European Championship for the fourth time in history (a total of seven matches for third place). Iceland, on the other hand, competed for the bronze medal at the Euro for the second time, and in 2010 the team defeated Poland.
The Croatian national team also has three “silver” medals at the European Championships in 2008, 2010, and 2020, which is the team's best result at the Euros.
